Researching and booking travel for people is without a doubt a FEAST or FAMINE career. And -- for me these days it is mostly FEAST! And because there are only so many hours in the day, occasionally a client goes with the first travel agent that returns their call. I followed up on a voice mail today for a potential client and ended up getting her voice mail, so I left her a message. She returned my call while I was picking up kids after work and indicated that she had already booked with another agent. While that is extremely sad for me, it was what the rest of her voice mail said that made my day. She indicated that she was really sorry she missed me and that she appreciated everything that I had placed on my website for people searching for help, like herself. She continued to say that my website was "over the top" and that the next opportunity she has to book a trip that she will definitely call me. How exciting is this? She booked with another agent, and yet instead of placing loyalty with the agent that I am sure handled her trip with care -- she will use me in the future. That being said, I hope to have plenty more people "stumble" on my website and have the first impression that she had.
Many lessons learned today: 1) Return calls immediately! 2) Learn to be faster at working on each client so I can get to the next client sooner! 3) Find the positive in anything!
